Our work

We need to raise $212,000 to buy a second Neo-Natal Transport system for Wellington Regional Hospital. The transport system is best described as a “Mobile Neonatal Intensive Care Unit”.  It contains numerous features that help save the lives of critically ill babies – some as young as 23 weeks ( 17 weeks premature).

Neonatal transport system

Wellington Regional Children’s Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) serves not only the Greater Wellington Region, but often cares for babies from throughout New Zealand when other Neonatal Units are full. Critically sick infants in the Wellington NICU can also come from Christchurch and Auckland. Wellington Regional Children’s Hospital Neonatal Unit looks after almost 1000 prematurely born babies from our region each year. 400 of these babies are transported from outside of Wellington to receive the best tertiary care they can. An additional transport system will ensure all premature babies in our region have access to specialist medical equipment right from the beginning of their journey.
