The New Children’s Hospital is a key infrastructure project for the Greater Wellington Region and it’s wonderful to see construction resume so quickly.  A new health check container and dedicated handwashing stations have been quickly put in place to comply with all new Health and Safety requirements under the COVID19 Alert Level Three response. While the return of subcontractors has been staggered, we hear the team are keen to get back underway!  Pictured wearing the season’s on-trend colour of ‘hi-vis orange’ and smartly accessorised with his digital thermometer, is McKee Fehl’s Site Manager Upega Laulu showing us the new entry to the New Children’s Hospital worksite.

During lockdown the project management and design teams continued to progress the detailed designs for the interior and their procurement activities remotely.  Weta Workshop have also been progressing their work for the new hospital to develop the creative environment and interactive spaces in the hospital.  The creative environment of the new children’s hospital is focused on children and their families and it will greatly enhance their well-being and experience of visiting and staying in hospital. Weta’s ideas and concepts are magic and we can’t wait to share it with you!

Work and consultation also continues around how we recognise Mark Dunajtschik and every other donor who has kindly supported the new children’s hospital, whether it’s individuals, children gifting their pocket money, schools, small businesses or one of our corporate charity partners – the wairua of this building reflects the generosity, aroha and goodwill of our caring community.
