In addition to the two whanau spaces in the new children’s hospital, the hard working members of Rotary District 9940 have also kindly agreed to raise funds for a Portable Ultrasound Machine. This will be an essential and much needed piece of medical equipment for the Te Wao Nui Child Health Service team.
One of the main advantages of a mobile ultrasound is that it avoids unnecessary transfer and extra movement of patients – which is particularly important in the current COVID climate.
The portable machines are equipped with hi-tech features that will allow the team to get high quality images in a short time, resulting in quicker diagnosis and earlier treatment.
The ultrasound also makes finding a child’s tiny veins easier, which greatly reduces the stress and anxiety associated with the insertion of an IV line or other invasive procedures.
