Today is World Human Milk Donation Day. Next week we also celebrate the anniversary of the launch of Wellington’s first Milk Bank – Pataka Miraka – in Wellington Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, which was funded by our generous supporters.

Donor milk banking is becoming common practice around the world, and while milk from a baby’s own mother is always the first choice, when her milk isn’t available, donor milk is the next best thing. Preterm babies face many significant health challenges and pasteurised donor breastmilk can reduce rates of medical complications and give fragile babies a fighting chance.
