The ICU can be an intense and very scary place for critically ill patients and their loved ones. Sadly, children are also regularly admitted to the ICU and last year during the RSV outbreak there were 9 tamariki and rangatahi in the unit at once. The unit has ceiling mounted TVs in 16 of the 24 bedspaces, however they didn’t link to any children’s channels and the positioning was also difficult for kids to view. Through the generosity of Foundation donors we were very pleased to fund two televisions on purpose-built stands along with a Disney+ subscription for paediatric and young adult patients in ICU.
ICU is a little less scary thanks to Foundation donors
