We are delighted to be able to continue our support for kidney patients by funding community based Renal Peer Support Workshops. These workshops are invaluable because they provide a link between the hospital and community, helping people affected by kidney disease adjust to their chronic illness.

Renal disease, often referred to as kidney disease, encompasses a range of conditions that impair the kidneys’ ability to function effectively. These vital organs play a crucial role in filtering waste and excess fluids from the blood. Chronic kidney disease can progress over time, potentially culminating in kidney failure, requiring dialysis or transplant.

Tracy, a transplant patient, attests to the impact of the peer support programme:

“These are my people. These are my team. I can talk freely, share everything safely, find out as much information as I can, be helped, and help others. No judgement, no having to apply filters that we do when with family to protect them through our struggles. We discuss side effects, issues faced, and share options and solutions. Knowledge is power, and this Peer Group bridges the gap between those dealing with it day-to-day and the meetings we can have with the Hospital Specialists. It is just so important. Timely information shared may help prevent negative outcomes. There were many issues I had wished someone had told me before I did the wrong thing due to lack of knowledge.”
