Warning: This post deals with babyloss

The loss of a precious baby is a heart breaking experience that no parent should ever have to endure. In these devastating moments, kindness and compassion can bring comfort, dignity and support to grieving families.

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, Wellington Regional Hospital’s Emergency Department can now offer Farewell Cocoons – beautifully crafted flax Ipu Taonga baskets, providing parents with a respectful and gentle way to take their very early miscarried baby home for burial. Ipu Taonga means a vessel for a treasure, a name that reflects the deep love parents hold for their child.

Previously, the only options available were clinical and distressing, such as specimen containers, adding further pain to an already overwhelming experience. But now, because of you, the caring Emergency Department team can provide families with something far more fitting and compassionate.

Your support has made this possible, ensuring that no family faces this loss without dignity and care. Thank you for making a real difference when it matters most.
