It’s National Volunteer week and we are incredibly fortunate to have an extraordinary family of more than 450 volunteers, who generously choose to gift their time and talents to help our hospitals every week.  Huge aroha and thanks to them all!  This week we’d love to introduce a few of them.

Not only is Al one of our volunteer hospital guides, kindly helping patients and visitors find their way across our hospital campus, but he’s also the muscle man working behind the scenes at many of our charity events.  Whenever we need a bit more man power, Al is there to expertly help us pack and lug gear to and from our fundraising and promotional events.  We’ve even chucked him in a pair of theatre scrubs and had him playing Jumbo Tennis and doctoring to soft toys at Hospi’s Annual Christmas Clinic.  With a background as an event manager for Wellington Venues overseeing a huge range of national and international gigs, fortunately nothing phases him.  And he keeps us entertained with some great backstage work stories!

Although he has a full schedule with his new role in Aviation Security (AVSEC) and can often be found pounding the streets long distance running, he still manages to spend time with us each week helping our hospitals.  “I ensure I make time to volunteer. Helping in the community is a part of my work life balance. I highly recommend volunteering as it broadens ones horizons and charity work is needed more than ever in our society.  Volunteering with the Foundation is incredibly rewarding. I get to meet lots of people and participate in some interesting events from time to time. And the Foundation team is awesome.”  Thanks Al!
