Sadly, demand for outpatient renal dialysis has been steadily increasing. Late last year a satellite dialysis unit – Te Whare Takihi mo te Katoa – was opened at the Hutt Hospital Hub, which will allow patients in the Hutt and Wairarapa areas to receive their lifesaving treatments much closer to home.
Dialysis isn’t a quick process, and patients typically require treatment 3 times a week, with each session taking up to 5 hours. The Foundation was very pleased to be able to fund 16 televisions, one for each dialysis station, to help patients pass the time during these long and frequent treatments.
Our generous donors have also made it possible to buy two Sonosite Portable Ultrasound units which will assist in essential renal imaging.
