This week we enjoyed a Christmas lunch with many of our amazing volunteers. We were also thrilled to be able to acknowledge and celebrate the tremendous service of Margaret Lucas.
Margaret was one of our very first hospital volunteers, and started her volunteering as a Pink Lady after answering an ad in the newspaper. She told us that, “The best thing about volunteering in the hospital was talking to patients. In the ward I was in, many people were from out of town and I felt it was helping them a great deal.”
Two decades on and at 90 years young, Margaret is still an active Foundation volunteer, and for the last 16 years she has been a talented and prolific knitter. Every month she knits 3-4 beautiful jackets to be sold through our hospital gift shop.
This is an incredible gift of time, talent and generosity to the community that Wellington Hospital serves.
