Thanks to the kindness of Irene Yarrall, children in Te Wao Nui Children’s Hospital will receive not just expert care this week, but also a beautifully handcrafted bear – each one made with love and compassion.

A talented knitter, Irene has created and donated 20 “trauma bears” to bring comfort to tamariki and rangatahi facing illness or injury. Having been on her own cancer journey, she understands the challenges of hospital stays and wanted to help young patients feel less alone by giving them something cuddly to hug.

Irene’s generosity is a wonderful reminder of the caring community that surrounds and supports our young hospital patients.
