United Arab Emirates new Ambassador to New Zealand His Excellency Mr. Saleh Alsuwaidi today presented Bill Day, Chair Wellington Hospitals Foundation with a cheque for US$20,000 to assist sick New Zealand and Pacific Island children.

Mr Saleh Alsuwaidi said the United Arab Emirates is pleased to join with Wellington Children’s Hospital to make a difference in many young children’s lives.

Bill Day said that funds would be used to purchase medical equipment and assist children’s services. “This is a magnificent commitment by United Arab Emirates and we will work with the Doctors, nurses and Children’s hospital staff to identify where the funds can be spent to make the most impact”.

Debbie Chin, CEO for Capital Coast District Health Board added her congratulations and appreciation to His Excellency for providing community support in this way. “Having the Community support the Foundation and Children’s Hospital always amazes me. And it is through such community generosity that we are able to do much more for our sick children.

Dr Andrew Marshall, Head of Clinical Services for Wellington Children’s Hospital said that the Hospital admits 7,000 children each year. “We also have about 40,000 day visits by children needing hospital care. This magnificent gesture by the Ambassador is just great and much appreciated” he said.
