Wellington Hospitals Foundation is a proud and long-time supporter of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), investing in excess of $3million in medical equipment and care items that help precious pēpē and their whānau. It was great to see members of NICU’s emergency Flight Team at Life Flight’s recent community Open Day.
Along with our youngest patients, hospital Intensive Care Unit (ICU) specialists also work with Life Flight to transport critically ill patients from smaller hospitals so that they can access the advanced (‘tertiary’) level provided in Wellington. NICU and ICU specialists beginning work in Wellington are inducted to the flight service with specific teaching on medicine in an aviation environment and orientation to the helicopter and aeroplane.
This is a stunning collaboration of highly trained professionals to provide specialist care and rapid air transfer of high needs patients to Wellington for specialist and life-saving treatment.
