All NICU and new mums in the maternity wards at Wellington Regional Hospital, Kenepuru Hospital and Paraparaumu Maternity Unit will receive a special quilt this Mother’s Day. These gifts are made possible thanks to a wonderful team of volunteer quilters, coordinated by Wellington Hospitals Foundation.
Sally Barton, Volunteer Manager said, “These beautiful handmade items are a real treat for our new mothers and a special effort is made to produce about 70 quilts in time for Mother’s Day every year.”
Special mention and thanks also goes to Sue Grimwood and Shanon Peters and their Busy Bee Quilt Shop Quilting Group, who have supplied quilts for both Mother’s Day and Christmas Day hospital gift packages, for almost 20 years! With more than 3,000 gorgeous quilts produced in that time, this is an extraordinary gift of service to our community. Sue said, “We are thrilled to be able to support the Foundation and new mums in this way. We have these skills and love to share it. A lot of fabric is donated, some people make the top of the quilt while others make the bottom – it’s a real team effort.”
