“During a busy shift, Registered Nurse Tessy recognised a critically unwell patient in the corridor who had abdominal pain and a blue leg. She prioritised care and alerted medical staff. This patient received rapid care and a CT scan showed aortic dissection. The patient was taken to the operating theatre as a category 1. Tessy saved this man’s life.”
“Tama, a security orderly, found an elderly patient’s bag and phone which was accidentally placed in linen.”
Wellington Regional Hospital’s Emergency Department is extremely busy, yet despite this the team of doctors, nurses, cleaners, orderlies, administrators and health care assistants do their very best to ensure that every single patient receives the best possible care.
The Foundation is proud to fund the ED’s excellence awards as they recognise members of their team like Tessy, Tama and others, who have demonstrated clinical excellence or gone above and beyond the call of duty.
