Construction of the new Wellington Regional Children’s Hospital took an exciting step forward today with the first pour of the foundations!

Philanthropist Mark Dunajtschik and Grant Corleison were thrilled to be on site this afternoon to see 181 cement trucks snake their way through Newtown with their very precious cargo.  This was a huge logistical exercise for builders Mckee Fehl who had to usher in a truck every 4 minutes to the site. Pumping was carried out in a continuous pour into the 100,000 kg of reinforcing steel, and by midnight the foundations were complete.

Bill Day, Chair of Foundation said, “Mark and Capital & Coast DHB are to be congratulated for bringing this much needed facility for young people to fruition. I couldn’t be prouder.”  We look forward to the final stage in early June, which will be an even bigger pour of 1200 cubic metres.
