Each winter, Police teams from across the region collect and donate hundreds of warm pyjamas for children in hospital. At Christmas, they return with gifts - often joined by the Dive Squad, AOS, dog handlers and other specialist teams, creating special memories for young patients and their whānau.
This much loved tradition began with the late Senior Constable Dean Gifford, who was inspired to help after his own hospital experience. “They were in the same boat as me but they were only five,” he said. “Then I started thinking of ways I could help them.”
Dean’s legacy lives on through the continued efforts of the wider Wellington Police whānau, who remind us that fundraising is about compassion, care and community.
