Neetu, shop volunteer

The Foundation’s charity gift shop is more than just a store. Located in the busy hub of Wellington Regional Hospital, it’s a go-to spot for thoughtful gifts, fresh flowers, everyday essentials and small surprises that help brighten a hospital stay.

Volunteering in the Gift Shop is a great role for people who enjoy being busy, love conversation and want to contribute to a positive hospital experience in a meaningful and visible way.

Why it matters

Every purchase supports the work of the Foundation, and every interaction offers a chance to make someone’s day just a little easier or brighter.

Meet Neetu

After an injury meant she could no longer continue in paid work, Neetu found new purpose through volunteering at the hospital gift shop.

Being a volunteer gives me the same fulfilment as my job did. I love interacting and helping people, especially those who are dealing with pain or uncertainty. I can relate to it.

She brings warmth and empathy to every shift and finds meaning in offering support, however small.

It feels good to be back in a role where I’m helping people. Whether it’s finding the right card or just sharing a smile - it all matters.

Is this role for you?

If you enjoy helping others, have a warm and approachable nature and are confident with basic retail tasks, we’d love to hear from you.
