Size: Newborn – 3 months

Materials: 2 x 50g balls of 4 ply 100% wool

Needles: 3.25mm and 2.75 mm

Tips:

  • This pattern can be knitted using 3.75mm and 3.0mm needles to give a slightly larger size.
  • One 50g ball should be sufficient for main body of garment. Neckline and sleeves can be knitted in a contrasting colour.

 

Main body of garment

Six row pattern repeat: (Makes one ‘ridge’.)

Row 1: Knit;   Row 2: Purl;   Row 3: Knit;  Row 4: Knit;   Row 5: Purl;   Row 6: Knit. 

Note that Row 1, and subsequent odd numbered rows are right side of garment.  Row 2 and subsequent even numbered rows are wrong side of garment.

Sew up side seam (from bottom edge to underarm).

Sleeves

Using 2.75mm needles, and starting at top of shoulder (right side facing), pick up and knit approximately 24 stitches down one side of armhole, 4 stitches from underarm, and 24 stitches from other side of armhole. (52 stitches – don’t need to be exact here, but ideally no fewer than 52 stitches.)  Work 12 rows of rib (K1, P1).  Cast off loosely. 

Repeat for second sleeve.

Join top of one sleeve plus shoulder seam.
