Hutt Hospital is seeing the incredible impact of donor-funded support across their Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) and children’s ward.

In SCBU, three new Lazyboy chairs have been warmly welcomed by staff and whānau. With 12 beds and previously only 6 chairs, families often faced long waits or had to use stools when all chairs were in use. For some mums, particularly those recovering from C-sections, this wasn’t safe or comfortable. These new chairs mean more parents can relax while feeding and cuddling their little ones - when it matters most.

In the children’s ward, people like you have helped fund Buzzy4 Shot devices that reduce pain and anxiety during procedures like vaccinations. Using gentle vibration and cooling, the devices help distract from the sensation of a needle, creating a more positive and reassuring experience for young patients.

I use Buzzy pretty much every day with our patients. I give lots of vaccinations and this is when I mainly use it. Highly recommend, Buzzy helps anxious children and is simple and quick to use. It’s a fast tool to help distract children from the pain of a needle.
