Thanks to our donors we can fund equipment, services, resources and patient spaces that bring comfort, dignity and support to patients and their whānau, from the moment they arrive, through treatment and beyond.

While government funding provides the essentials, our supporters make room for the human touch - the small, meaningful details that help patients feel cared for every step of the way.

Here’s a few key examples of how your support helps.

Creating child friendly spaces and experiences

Especially for sick tamariki and their whānau, spending time in hospital can be really tough. With the new Te Wao Nui Children’s Hospital, working to create beautiful child friendly spaces and experiences to help to make the journey less stressful for kids and families has been a key focus. This includes partnering with the incredible team at Wētā Workshop to develop the beautiful forest aesthetic and magical world of our Kaitiaki guardians for child health, developing child friendly waiting rooms and play areas, activity books, sticker charts, special care packs, as well as extra support for our frequent flyers. With your support, our goal is to extend this throughout the region to all of Wellington’s public hospitals to ensure our tamariki receive the best possible care.

Patient centred spaces and experiences

Especially in times of high stress, emergency situations and long waits, providing great care for our community is so much more than medical. With your support, we’re able to assist across a huge variety of areas throughout the region to support patients and families when they need it most. This includes supplying emergency clothing and care packs for thousands of urgent and unplanned trips to hospital; helping to fund refurbishments of waiting areas and whānau rooms to provide more comfortable spaces that help make the journey a bit less stressful. Other examples of support include special care packs for newborn babies and families; hand-held fans for hundreds of patients who go through palliative care; to specialised support like inkless kits or wairua bowls for families if they lose a loved one.

Dedicated care and support from our volunteers.

Every single day our volunteer service provides care and support for hundreds of patients and their families, with more than 590+ active volunteers supporting through a variety of specialised volunteer roles across the public hospitals in our region. Last year alone our volunteer guides helped more than 57,000 patients with varying accessibility needs get to where they needed to be. Our volunteer knitters and crafters lovingly made more than 12,000 items including beautiful merino wool booties, blankets and hats for newborn babies. Our volunteers also provide ward specific support for hospital staff and patients in many areas throughout our hospitals in various wards and departments including emergency, intensive care, mental health, and neonatal intensive care. With your help, we can support our volunteers to do even more to assist patients and families when they need it most.
